Just like we have two hands, two legs, two eyes and two ears, our brain consists of two hemispheres – the left brain and right brain. Each side of the brain processes information completely differently. If only one side of the brain was working, depending on which side was active, we would see completely different actions. The left side of the brain is the more logical part. It is detail oriented, uses facts and solves math problems. The right side of the brain is the more creative part. It controls imagination, visualization, and is “big picture” oriented.

According to Left Brain, Right Brain by Dan Eden, experiments show that most children rank highly creative (right brain) before entering school. Because our educational systems place a higher value on left brain skills such as mathematics, logic and language than it does on drawing or using our imagination, only ten percent of these same children will rank highly creative by age 7. By the time we are adults, high creativity remains in only 2 percent of the population.
